The art of paillonné enameling involves decorating the enamel with paillons, tiny motifs hand-cut from gold or silver leaf. Then, the gold arabesques are covered with the translucent fondant, to become one with the dial enamel. It is a technique central to Jaquet Droz’s traditional expertise, raised to an art form during the 18th century.
